New Jersey Drilling Co.

New Jersey Drilling Co., specializing in rock drilling applications, has participated on some of New York and New Jersey's largest rock projects. From drilling the rock caissons that once supported "The World Trade Towers" to more recently drilling 24-inch diameter caissons on "Route 69" in Bayonne, New Jersey, our wide variety of drilling equipment and expertise have provided drilling solutions to our contractor clients throughout the tri-state area.

Rock and related earth materials are so variable that the expert driller cannot aford to be a specialist. We take on the rough jobs others are reluctant to tackle. Our success story is studded with names of blue-chip contractors throughout the continental U.S..

New Jersey Drilling's drill fleet is a multi-million dollar investment and many of these drills are the finest of their kind. Highly mobile equipment gets there fast and is prepared to quickly handle the emergencies and crash programs. Special models such as a Barber DR-24 "dual rotary" drill and the hammer drills up to 24 inch diameter enable us to drill large bore holes in hard solid rock.

Large Hole Work

New Jersey Drilling has had vast experience in the field of large hole work. Our special downhole drills handle 24 inch diameter in the hardest rock with ease and at impressive penetration rates.

Our experience includes drilling in rubble, riprap, glacial till ranging from hard pan through water saturated gravel and boulders, weathered cavernous limestone, marine silt, quartzite, stratified sedimentary sandstone, caving shale, a variety of Metamorphic schists, gneisses, and hard abrasive crystalline granite, trap rocks and basalts.

Caissons

New Jersey Drilling has tailored all its large hole equipment to handle and set casing to whatever diameter is required. This same equipment is designed either to rotary drill or drive casing through most any formation. Once the casings are set to solid formations, they are seated and sealed into rock. Sockets may then be drilled if required by specifications.

Rock Socketing

Our experience in hard rock drilling spans many years of drilling water wells, contract drilling for blast holes in quarries and blast hole production work for large highway cuts.

The advent of large diameter percussion downhole drills 10" to 24" in diameter, such as a Barber DR-24 Drilling in combination with Ingersoll-Rand hammers and bits have expanded our capabilities. Our ability to put down larger bore holes through a wider variety of drilling conditions including difficult overburden and in hard rock can change the entire picture, cost and design of foundation work.

Industrial and Municipal Water Wells

New Jersey Drilling's well drilling experience covers a respectable seventy-five years. We have the know-how for hard rock, soft rock, alluvial deposits, gravel packing of screens, and drilling with air, mud or foam. We are prepared to handle all types of well designs and related methods of developing and completing wells in all kinds of unconsolidated and rock formations.

Soil Sampling and Core Drilling

Exploratory/geotechnical drilling will tell you in advance what you want to know about soil and rock conditions related to design criteria for foundations, dams, bridge piers, solid waste disposal sites, sand and gravel deposits. It can tell you the kind of rock you will encounter and its condition, whether it is friable, porous, soft or hard. New Jersey Drilling can also provide you with data, samples and cores useful for calculating foundation supporting capabilities of overburden or for rock condition identification. Core drilling can also verify the condition of rock sockets easily and quickly. In fact, there is hardly anything you cannot explore. We provide the service, machines and personnel, and eliminate your costly outlay for equipment. Core and/or soil samples are provided for your inspection on the site or shipped in chronological sequence to the lab or office of your choice. A lithological log goes with the samples.

In addition to traditional geotechnical drilling services, we offer a full line of specialty sampling and instrumentation installation capabilities. Some of these services include:

  • Sampling Applications:
    • Similprobe (groundwater and soils sampling)
    • Hydo-Punch
    • Geoprobe (rigs and tooling) – Both truck and track mounted machines
    • Packer Testing
    • Pump Tests
  • Instrumentation Applications:
    • Monitoring Wells & Standpipe Piezometers
    • Vibrating Wire Piezometers (pore-pressure piezometers)
    • Inclinometers
    • Extensometers
    • Borros Anchors
    • Settlement Platforms
    • Well & Instrumentation Abandonments
